Drapes247

2020-

Drapes247 is a collective of four multidisciplinary professional artists exploring temporality, duration, and change through performance-based practices. Our experimental work spans live reactive sound design, improvised music, and generative video art.

Members:

  • Tomi Flyckt  – synthesizers, sequencers, bass, and voice
  • Viljami Lehtonen  – modular synthesizer, saxophone, and clarinet
  • Jani Hietanen – guitar, sequencers, voice, and generative video
  • Jussi Liukkonen  – drums, sequencers, looper, and voice

Despite long careers in music and sound art, none of us in Drapes247 had previously experienced the kind of therapeutic and reflective impact that improvisation has offered. Exploring and analyzing the abstract sonic worlds we create together has helped each of us better understand our own inner processes and discover new tools that support creativity.

The core themes of slowness, insight, and transformation are central to Drapes247. Our work is fully improvised, often unfolding over 30 to 60 minutes. We refer to this as “slow music”—a space we’ve expanded by coining microgenres like modular blues and data ambient. Between pieces, we “wipe the mandala clean” and begin again, responding to whatever musical seed arises in the moment.

Our slow, durational approach resists short-form consumption and invites deeper commitment—making it, in a way, anti-capitalist and ecologically conscious. Over time, we’ve found Drapes247 also acts as a mirror for the listener, offering space for personal reflection through sound.

Drapes247 composed the music for Yle’s popular podcast Ovi alamaailmaan (2023) and for the performance Gardening Gourmet by the KOKIMO collective (2024). We have also performed in Club Carousel, a cabaret by Race Horse Company (2020–21), in Mitäs Mitäs Mitäs Festival (2022) and participated in the Regel62 exhibition at Sinne gallery in Helsinki (2023).

In addition, Drapes247 operates its own webcast radio station at drapes247.com. All sessions are broadcast in studio quality without editing, censorship, or curation—a radical gesture against today’s culture of control and perfectionism.
